Dear Friends,

As we prepare this edition of the e-journal, the strong fragrance of Violets is wafting through the air, while yet, there is a weather forecast for snow in our area. Violets are one of the first flowers to bloom at Terra Flora in late winter, beginning in January and lasting through the month of February or longer. Every year we are absolutely delighted and blessed to see and smell these beautiful little flowers.

In this edition of the e-journal, among other presentations, we are honored to feature the volunteer work of practitioners in Haiti, Angola and Brazil, who have given selflessly of their time and skills to help others in great need. Time and time again, it has been shown that flower essences help to address the emotional trauma and disruption caused by natural and man-made disasters. Flower essence therapy offers hope and healing in these contexts and also in our everyday lives.

Wishing you the joys of the forthcoming springtime!

Social Service Work

Helping the People of Haiti:
the Remarkable Use of Flower Essences

Read a report written by Julia Graves and Thupten Jinpa after they returned from a second trip to Haiti in 2010 where they organized a community health clinic. An extended group of practitioners accompanied them and offered homeopathic, herbal, flower essence, aromatherapy and related treatments to all those who came to the clinic. Flower essences played a central role in helping with the emotional trauma still prevalent among the people served.

Flower Essence Therapists Play Vital Role
in Emergency Relief Following Floods in Brazil

This is a report written by Vera Gondim, a flower essence practitioner and teacher in Brazil. After the devastating and disastrous floods in the country, she and an already well-organized social service group of flower essence practitioners went to deliver flower essence therapy to those in need of emotional support. Read the report here.

Flower Essence Therapy Helps Village Women in Angola

“Working in Ringoma, providing Bach flower therapy was such a rich and full experience. It helped develop my realization that universally, all peoples of the world experience the same emotional conflicts, and have concerns for family.” Read about Joan Ryan's commitment to offering her practitioner skills and doing volunteer work in places where people have experienced traumas.

Rosemary, Fuchsia and Other Key Flower Essences for Menopause

“Flower essences are especially important because they help women struggling with menopausal problems, those who usually don't know where else to turn for relief except to pharmaceutical medications, since all the allopathic medical community wants to do is prescribe pills. The fact that the essences are so natural, cost considerably less, can help without side effects, and really do work, is a god-send for those of us suffering with these symptoms.” ReadVicka Lanier's case observations using Rosemary and Fuchsia as lead flower essences for the symptoms of menopause.

Plant Study

Queen Anne’s Lace (Daucus carota)

One of the principle contributions of the Flower Essence Society has been the development of flower essence plant studies, particularly the relationship of botanical classifications with flower essence qualities. These correlations are based on the perception that the forms and structures of the essence plants are expressions of their underlying qualities and energetic properties. Before entering the FES Certification Program, one must complete a plant study; readTheresa Melia’s study of the Queen Anne’s Lace which was submitted for the 2010 FES Practitioner Certification Program. Read further comments exploring the plant signature of Queen Anne’s Lace and its healing qualities as a flower essence by Patricia Kaminski and Richard Katz.

Archetypal Character Study

Michael Jackson and Pretty Face

One of the aims of the FES Certification Program is to help each student come into greater awareness of archetypal reality, both in the language and images of the soul, and in the larger soul expressions of Nature. The ability to become articulate in this language is fundamental to practitioner skill in flower essence therapy. A core assignment involves exploration of an archetype that can be clearly evidenced in visual art, literature, film, human biography or larger culture, and how this archetype is reflected in the context of a particular flower archetype. Read the archetypal study of Michael Jackson and Pretty Face written by FES certified practitioner Danielle Woermann.
